In the movie ‘Take off” Sameera, the main character says something to this sense;
‘I lived my life always in fear… younger days fear of the father, then of the husband and now of the child.’
Is it a tragedy everyone especially the women in our society has to face?
If Shakespeare were to be a woman, he would not have achieved the social status that he enjoys today (Sara Joseph, in an interview to Sathyadeepam). The social systems still view the women as a secondary citizen. The expression of themselves is always limited and shaped by the society. The first priority of every woman is their family and the society defines it so. Any initiatives form the part of women has to be a secondary job for the first priority is her family.
However I have two questions to ask:
1. Do our women enjoy equal status?
2. Are women called to enjoy equal status in the society?
Waiting to hear from you all…
