Authority and Integrity

A story is told of a Guru, who took time to advise the child of a devotee to stop eating sweets, enquiring why, he said ‘when you brought your child to me I had the habit of eating lots of sweets, then  how can I tell him not to eat.’

It is only in the integrity of words and action one can practise the authority. As often children say to the parents, ‘let us follow your examples rather than your words and advises.’

Book Review: Fruitful and Responsible Love

Wojtyla, Karol. Fruitful and Responsible Love. St Paul’s Publications. ISBN 085439 159  2

Summary of the Book: Address given by Karol Woltyla, then Cardinal Archbishop of Cracow at the international Congress on family problems held at Milan in June 1978 to mark the tenth anniversary of Humanae Vitae.

My Views: The book approaches the key theme of the encyclical Humanae Vitae ‘fruitful and responsible love’ from a very pastoral point of view. I must say the book encourages the couples to take responsibility for themselves and their actions basing on the Love for each other. Love being the guiding principle one is led to do the right thing resecting each other.

Though never stress on contraceptive means as something the wrong, the importance given to the explanation of Love makes one understand the right way of shaping ones life.

Its quite am easy reading book.

Marriage and Family

“Marriage and the family are invariably at the root of all the affairs of man and society. Although in itself it is, one might say, a most private concern, an affair of two persons, of husband and wife, and of the smallest social group, which they form together with their children, yet the fate of nations and continents, of humanity and of the Church depends upon it.”

John Paul II, Fruitful and Responsible Love.

മിച്ചൽ, മാർഗരറ്റ്. കാറ്റിനോടൊപ്പം. ഡി സി ബുക്സ്. ISBN. 978- 81-264-5 116-6

Book’s Summary:

My Views: Margaret Mitchell in the famous book ‘Gone with the Wind’ explores the struggles that Scarlett had to go through to keep her family alive during the American Civil War. The higher value of life is stresses all through the story. The author has succeeded in keeping the value of life rather than anything in situations such as war internal struggles in the country. Books communicates to the readers about life and  its daily struggles.

Love an Identity

The early Christians were known for their Love for each other, people used to exclaim “Look how they love one another!” This love found expression in a multitude of activities. (Bokenkotter Thomas. A Concise History of the Catholic Church. NY: Image Books, 2005)

Question:
? How are we identified as Christians today?
? What is the predominant character that we project in our lives?
? When we become mere Sunday Christians, what are we challenging?

Pope Francis celebrated the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at a temporary welcome and living facility for refugees and asylum- seekers  located on the outskirts of Rome. Its a place of refuge for nearly 900 asylum-seekers from 25 different countries spread across Africa, Asia, and even Europe. In imitation of Christ at the Last Supper Pope washed the leg of a dozen people –eleven guests of the camp and one woman who works at the Centre for Auxilium. Four of the guests taking part in the ritual were Nigerian Catholics, three others – all three women – were Coptic Christians from Eritrea, three others were Muslims from Syria, Pakistan and Mali, and one was an Indian Hindu. I really feel that when guided by the person of Christ, we come to see the value of humanity rather than divisions that exists.

Prayer: Lord give us the openness of mind to accept other as my own brother and sister who is created in your image and likeness. Bless us with the attitudes of Christ.
